Deep point of origin
Hovawarts were first bred during the 13th century in Germany. Kurt Friedrich König resumed hovawart breeding in the early 20th century.
Adequately built
Hovawarts are large, strong dogs with a harmonious body structure.
Their height and weight can range between 58 to 70 cm and 24 to 40 kg, respectively.
Bred with purpose
Their sole purpose was to guard and protect their master's estate. Hovawarts are extremely loyal, brave, alert and independent dogs.
Three colors of Hovawart
Hovawarts are characterized by long, slightly wavy fur, which comes in three color varieties: black, blonde, and black and tan.
A versatile dog
Their versatile nature makes Hovawarts excellent as family, guard, rescue and therapy dogs.
Unique charm
Hovawarts have noble, slightly elongated head with dark, expressive eyes and medium-length, drop ears, which give it an intelligent and alert expression.

Hi! I am Magda
I'm the founder of the Unalome FCI, a responsible, family-run kennel specialising in breeding Hovawarts, based out of Sława, Poland.
My Hovawart story
I came across Hovawarts by pure luck when one December evening I almost ran over a puppy who was too eager to cross the street. Upon returning the pup to their owner, I learnt she was a Hovawart.
I was already looking for a dog then, and something about her told me that this might be it. Three months later, in March 2005, I brought home my first Hovawart, Gerda.
A seed was sown
Having Gerda taught me how loyal, intelligent and strong-willed Hovawarts can be. But it wasn’t until 2014 when the idea of breeding Hovawarts first occurred to me.
This was also when I brought home my third Hovawart, Grappa. She had the makings of the perfect breeding female, and by now I had developed an idea of the line I wanted to create.
And so Unalome was born!
Eight years, eight residents and 33 puppies later, my love for Hovawarts continues to encourage me to run my kennel the way I always have —
with care, passion and admiration for the great breed of dogs they are.
And I hope to share this love with you.
